Your First Visit
What to bring:
- Identification
- Driver’s License or other government photo I.D.
- Insurance cards: both medical and vision
- List of your current medications including eye drops, vitamins and over-the-counter medications
- Your glasses AND contact lenses. Contact lens wearers should wear their contact lenses to the office
What to expect
- Personal service….you are not a number at our office, and your needs will be met and your questions answered to the best of our ability
- Once your paperwork is complete, either a technician or Dr. Sanders will perform several preliminary tests with you
- Dr. Sanders will perform a refraction to determine the prescription for your glasses contact lenses
- The eye health portion of the exam follows, and this includes evaluation of the outside of your eyes, the eye pressure check, and dilation
- Once dilating drops are instilled, there will be a wait of approximately 15-30 for the drops to take effect. During that time, you will be assisted with frame and lens selection if needed
- Once the dilating drops have taken effect, Dr. Sanders will examine the inside of your eyes. At the conclusion of the examination, Dr. Sanders will discuss all results with you and answer any questions you may have
Special note to Medicare patients
- The refraction portion of the exam (the measurement of eyeglass prescriptions) is not covered by Medicare; therefore, payment of refractions is expected from the patient
